It is the mission of the Department of Periodontology to be recognized locally, nationally and internationally for evidence-based didactic and clinical education, research, compassionate patient care and service to the community.
The Department ofPeriodontics provides didactic and clinic education in Periodontology at the pre-graduate and the post-graduate (residency, doctoral) levels.
The didactic areas of instruction include the normal periodontium at the macro and microscopic level, periodontal pathology including intra-oral lesions associated with periodontal conditions, periodontal microbiology and immunology, periodontal treatments, wound healing and materials in periodontal regenerative and periodontal plastic surgery, dental implantology, case management, epidemiology and statistics in Periodontology.
The clinical areas of instruction for pregruduate students include periodontal examination, diagnosis, treatment planning, case presentation and non-surgical therapies in otherwise healthy as well as medically compromised patients. Post graduate education includes periodontal examination, diagnosis, treatment planning, surgical and non-surgical therapies dental implant treatment and new approaches in periodontology for both resident and doctoral students. The areas of surgical therapy include periodontal plastic surgery, reconstructive therapy, impant dentistry and surgical therapy of periimplant diseases. Er- Yag laser is used for both non-surgical and hard and soft tissue surgical treatments.
